Has anyone managed to actually update their Nav database in the Navi 5.0 IntelliLink system according to the manual instructions? Aside from the fact that the database is stupidly large, over 17Gb for v8.0, which, even with a reasonably fast broadband link, 27MBS in my case) that it takes about 1:15 to just download. After decompressing the files it then takes another hour to transfer them onto a suitably formatted USB stick.

Having done this several times, when actually trying to get the update to work in the car is a joke. You know it's going to take at least as long for the database to update in the car and the engine needs to be on during the update. You can't update it without the engine on, at least if you could even get past the next problem... when you insert the USB stick, the first message you get is that there are no readable files on the USB stick. Hang on... just wait a few seconds and the message will change and say that there is a database update on the USB stick after all. You now have to select the database and confirm that you want to update it. Press the green tick and it starts to show the message "updating database"... only for it to show "update failed" after about a minute.

I wrote to the CEO of Vauxhall complaining about this problem and who is their software expert that thinks it's acceptable to have to download the whole European database of over 17Gb which is a complete waste of broadband bandwidth and mine and everybody else time who tries to do this to only end up with a failed update. I went to see my dealer and the salesman also said he had the same problem with his demo Corsa-e.

Anyway, I was contacted by the CEOs assistant who looked into this and arranged for me to take my car to the dealership where they would fix this problem and also provided me with a courtesy car for the duration. After half a day I went back and picked up my car. I was shown the worksheet which said that the "Firmware" had been updated. I queried the fact that a "Firmware" update is not the same as a "nav database" update. I asked to speak with the technician who supposedly did the update but he was unavailable. I decided to take the car home and checked the maps and there is no way that the nav database had been updated. The reason I know this was because on a recent long journey the A12 after Cambridge has been completely redone and follows a different, new route. It has been open over 6 months and such a major update should be reflected in the database. The nav map still showed the old route.

There is no way that I can find to check the update or version installed. I'm sure there is a secret key or button combo you need to know in order to reveal the info and if anyone knows it, please reveal here. The other reason I'm sure it wasn't updated is because when I brought the car into the dealership, the technician jones myself and the salesman as we were discussing the problem. He said at the time that he had no idea how he was going to do it as he had exactly the same problem as I had been having. I queried with him how he was going to fix it then. He just said he was going to call Opel in Germany and ask them for a solution.

When I returned the courtesy car and picked up the keys for my Corsa-e, the service receptionist read out the work record. I asked her to query "Firmware" update and "Nav database" update with the technician. I didn't receive a satisfactory answer and that's when I asked to speak with the technician. She came back and fobbed me off with "he's extremely busy right now with a very complex technical issue and can't come out". I explained to her that I wasn't sure the actual work had been done but she then tried to fob me off with "we spoke with Opel in Germany and we used their specialised computer system". That just confirmed that they hadn't actually solved the problem.

I thought, if they've updated the firmware then maybe that fixed the problem with updating the database with the USB stick. So, I thought I'd try and run the update again but had exactly the same results as previously with the "update filed" message. I was contacted the next day by the CEOs assistant and explained the above to her and was told that she would look into it. So far, nothing heard back.

So, does anyone know the way to check which version of firmware and which nav database is in the Navi 5.0 IntelliLink system?

I've had the same problem. It's been a nightmare. I've tried multiple drives and formats aswel as both Vauxhall and PSA branded updates. Your experience has helped me successfully update the maps, current version now shows 15th May 2020.

After the second "failure", simply leave it another moment and a list of maps (countries) will show up. Select the ones you want and press the green tick.
I didn't get any notification that it was updating not that it had finished however the light on my thumb drive was flashing so I knew it was being read
The nav function disappeared after 10 minutes or so and returned 30 or so minutes later. When it returned I checked the map dates and confirmed it had indeed updated.

I hope this helps.

Where did you find the update version and date for the map? Here is what I get when I try to update: https://vimeo.com/463441406

I don't get any option to select which maps I want to update. I just get the option to select "map-eur".

I have found how to access the "Expert Mode" of the system but I don't know the passcode. If you hold the right hand button for about 6-7 seconds, you are presented with the passcode entry page. If anyone knows the passcode for the Corsa-e (F) Navi 5.0 system, please pass it on.

After you get the update failure, I left mine as I was driving and a minute later the map options appear.

Here is how to find the map date;

Thanks Bladesman83. I have checked my map version and it's showing v4.0.0. The latest available is the same as yours, v8.0.0. Just goes to show you how the dealers can lie to you.

Regarding the system (Firmware) version, I found the info after poking around in the settings menu and I'm showing version: 42.01.72.32_NAC-r0 Dated: 2020-03-18. Any chance you could check yours, assuming you can find the menu for it. I would like to see if the actual firmware was updated on mine. It looks doubtful if the current one is dated 18th March 2020.

I have just tried again to update the map but after the update fail, even after waiting for 10 minutes, I don't get any option. The usb stick carries on flashing and the screen eventually goes to the User Profile screen and then the usb just glows continuously.

I think this may be because the firmware version is out of date. If you can find the version of firmware in your Corsa, I'd be interested to know which one you have. It is entirely possible that once the latest firmware is updated then the system will let you update the nav database.

Anyway, I've written back to the CEO's Panda the dealership with photos to show how they are lying about having performed the updates.

As a matter of interest, how old is your Corsa-e?

So, the firmware is up to date. It's just the nav database that I (and obviously the dealer) can't update. So, if we try to narrow this down to the type of usb stick you are using. What size and make is the USB stick you used?

I'd also like to query the process you were using when you managed to actually update the nav database. You said:
After you get the update failure, I left mine as I was driving and a minute later the map options appear.
So initially, did you get the same as I had in my video?

Insert USB... get "Media Error" message about no content on the USB memory stick...

Next you got the "Update" message that a map update is available on the inserted media and the option to start the update...

Next you get the "File Selection" screen with the "map-eur" tick box...

Select the option and select "install"...

Next the "Update" page with the "do not switch off engine" and the progress line...

Then you got the "Update map-eur has failed" message...

And then you left it alone as you were driving at the time and eventually you got the "map options"? You were able to select those and initiate the update again and it was successful? You were able to select which countries you wanted to upload.

You said you were driving at the time you did this. Did you stay driving for the 30 minutes or so it took to update the maps?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to get to the bottom of this as both Vauxhall HQ and the dealer are not very forthcoming and don't actually understand or appreciate the problem.

No problem, it's fine and I'm happy to help.

The answer to all of your questions is yes with the exception of the time I was driving. I was only driving for 20 minutes or so (quick trip the tip and I left it running while I was there). I did leave it running for a further hour when I got home though as the stick was clearly still being read. I didn't get any notification to say that it had completed. The only change I can state is what I said earlier, the nav function stopped working and returned around 30 minutes later, so I assume this was when it completed.

The memory stick I used on this occasion was a 32GB Toshiba formatted to fat 32.
Just to clarify my steps;

Formatted USB stick and added folder and file SWL and Updateinfo
Switched car on and inserted USB stick
Got the "no content error" but left it in
Got the map update and selection (EU.....), told updating in progress, don't switch off etc
Failed, but left it in
Got the choice of countries, selected all and hit the green tick
Nav function disappeared
Nav function came back
Checked map date to confirm updated

I hope you get it sorted.

Many thanks bladesman83. Only difference I can see to anything I did was that you were actually driving when you started the update. I'll give that a go and see what happens.

BTW, do you know which version of the Toshiba USB you used? Was it a USB2.0 or USB3.0?
